Tenant rights in Algeria

Security deposit, notice period, charges, eviction — know your rights as a tenant in Algeria under current legislation.

The lease agreement

In Algeria, residential leasing is governed by Law 07-05. Every contract must be in writing and registered with the tax authorities to be enforceable against third parties.

The security deposit

Generally equivalent to one or two months' rent. It must be returned within a reasonable period after the end of the lease, minus any documented damages.

Notice period

One month for furnished rentals, three months for unfurnished rentals. The landlord must also give notice to reclaim the property.

Charges

Recoverable charges must be defined in the contract. Major repairs (roofing, structure) remain the landlord's responsibility.

In case of dispute

File with the competent court of first instance. A lawyer specialized in real estate law can represent you.
